This gorgeous Banded Carnelian Pendant measures 4cm long and has been hand-polished to enhance its fierce, fiery colours.

This piece of Carnelian Jewellery has been cut into a semi-rectangular pendant shape and hand-polished on one face to a fantastically high standard in our UK workshop.

The pendant has been drilled and set with a 925 Stamped Silver Bail, making it perfect for attaching to a chain to make a Carnelian Necklace. Our pendants come with a length of wax cord so that you can make a necklace with them, as well as a black velvet jewellery pouch for storage. 

The semi precious gemstone showcases an array of hues ranging from volcanic reds to burnt orange hues contrasted with creamy whites.

Atop this base of vibrant colour, the stone also displays some interesting curved marks and patterns.

What Is Carnelian Made Of? 

Carnelian is a form of Chalcedony generally coming in red, orange or amber colours, but it can be banded as well which is then Carnelian Agate.

Chalcedony is a subset of the large Quartz family of minerals. 

All types of Quartz are composed from silica (otherwise known as silicon dioxide), but differ due to their crystal structures.

Chalcedony gems are microcrystalline in structure, which means you can't see the crystals inside the stone. 

Other types of Chalcedony gemstones include Jasper, Agate, and Chrysoprase.  

Why Is Carnelian Red And Orange?

The distinctive fiery colours present in Carnelian are caused by iron impurities within the Quartz.

How Hard Is Carnelian? 

Measuring 7 on the Mohs scale, this mineral is relatively hard and durable and resistant to scratching, but care should still be taken not to damage the crystal surface. 

This mineral has a similar hardness to other Chalcedony gems such as Jasper and Agate. 

To clean the crystal, simply use water and dry it afterwards with a soft cloth.
