Ammonite Phylloceras 10.6cm
Phylloceras Ammonite, fossil from Madagascar. This gorgeous Ammonite is 10.6cm at its widest diameter it has been beautifully polished to reveal its rich coloured calcites and its stunning suture patterns, the mouth has also been expertly prepared out to the sutures. The ammonite has had its original shell ground off to reveal the calcite replacement which has occurred over 120 million years. Water dissolves the original hard parts of the ammonite shell and replaces it with mineral matter in a very slow process. This beautiful rich coloured fossil is of a very high grade and very tactile, perfect for a collector or just something beautiful to own. It comes from the north west coast of Madagascar in the jungles of Mahajanga. It is from the Cretaceous period and comes complete with display stand.
