Labradorite Pendant bezel set in 925 Rhodium plated silver. This attractive Labradorite Pendant is 4.25cm tall and 3.2cm wide it displays a vibrant mix of blue, mauve and gold colours flashing from deep within the stone. Using high grade Madagascan Labradorite selected specifically for a pendant the stone is bezel set in 925 silver which covers the side and back of the stone, The silver is Rhodium plated to prevent tarnishing and keep the silver looking bright. Excellent Labradorescence is shown also known as the schiller effect which is the stones famous property. When exposed to the light the gem becomes a shimmering tapestry of colour. The natives of Pauls island off the coast of Labrador have told the story of Labradorite for generations. The tale recounts a legendary Inuit warrior the first to discover that the Aurora Borealis had been stolen from the sky and imprisoned in the gem known as Labradorite, smashing the stone with his spear he returned the northern lights to their home, but some light remained eternally encased in the crystal. As legend has it this is how the phenomenon of Labradoresence came to be.
