Ammonite Lytoceras 6.5cm
Lytoceras Ammonite, fossil for sale from Madagascar. This stunning Lytoceras Ammonite measuring 6.5cm at its widest point has been slightly polished on top of the fossilised shell, which displays subtle cream and caramel tones.
Sourced from the Tulear region of Madagascar, this fossil is 163 million years old and dates back to the Jurassic Period. The original shell of the Ammonite was replaced over a very long period of fossilisation, wherein water dissolved the original hard parts of the ammonite shell and replaced it with mineral matter: most commonly, Calcite minerals.
Lytoceras is a species of Ammonite (an extinct marine mollusc) that can often be distinguished from other ammonites by the large horn shape of the shell.
This high-grade Ammonite fossil is perfect for a collector or as a unique gift. Piece comes complete with display stand.
