What Is Ruby In Kyanite Made Of?

Ruby in Kyanite is a ruby combination stone which consists mainly of deep blue Kyanite, with some elements of Ruby within its crystal matrix which often appear as speckles and swirls and spots.

Ruby in Kyanite forms when Kyanite and Ruby minerals grow alongside each-other during the formation of metamorphic rock

Like all combination stones, Ruby in Kyanite is classified as a rock as it is composed of multiple minerals rather than just one.

Ruby in Kyanite can also display other mineral inclusions such as Green Fuchsite

What Is Ruby Made Of?

Ruby is a variety of the Corundum mineral family (which are crystallised aluminium oxides), of which Sapphires are also a member.

The distinctive red colour of this precious gemstone is thought to be caused by Chromium elements in the crystal matrix, alongside iron and titanium.

What Is Kyanite Made Of?

Kyanite, sometimes called Cyanite, is an aluminosilicate mineral found in metamorphic rocks, meaning it is rich in aluminium, and it is famed for its gorgeous ocean blue hues.

Many users find the colour soothing due to its resemblance to the turquoise and aquamarine tones of the sea, and in fact this mineral is renowned for having a calming aura.

Ruby In Kyanite History

Ruby and Kyanite, the two minerals that make up Ruby in Kyanite, both have been used for humans for millennia.

Ruby Combination Stones such as Ruby in Kyanite, Ruby in Fuchsite, and Ruby in Zoisite, have been popular for many years.

Ruby History

Rubies have been incredibly popular throughout history in a variety of cultures and civilisations.

Its name, ruby, is the Latin word for red: in fact, until the 1800s when this mineral was properly distinguished and categorised, many types of red stones were called rubies, including garnets

Historically, rubies have been highly symbolic of wealth, royalty, and nobility: they have been used to decorate the crowns and palaces of kings and queens all over the world.

Highly polished ruby gemstones continue to sell for millions of pounds even in this modern day and age, and are highly coveted by gemstone collectors

Ruby Myth And Legend

As rubies have been an important part of civilisations the world over, it is no wonder that many myths and legends surrounding them have been created.

Ancient cultures used rubies as good luck charms: in ancient Burma, now known as Myanmar, many people believed that if you placed a ruby inside your skin, it made you immune to harm.

In Hindu mythology, the ruby is the stone which represents the Sun: this symbolism remains today, and modern crystal healers believe that rubies harness the potent energy of the fire element

Kyanite History

Kyanite's name, coined by famous mineralogist/ geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner, was derived from an Ancient Greek word roughly meaning "blue", a word which was also the origin for the blue colour shade named "Cyan".

For this reason, "Kyanite" is sometimes spelled as "Cyanite".

Kyanite has had many uses in industry over the years, alongside being cut into gemstones: for example, it is used to manufacture ceramics.

Ruby In Kyanite Crystal Healing Properties

Ruby in Kyanite, as a Ruby Combination Stone, harnesses the harmonious crystal healing powers of both Ruby and Kyanite, as well as any other minerals the stone may contain, such as Green Fuchsite.

Ruby is purported to have an energising influence on its user, whilst Kyanite is a stone known by crystal healers to have a peaceful, calming energy.

Thus, Ruby in Kyanite is believed to both nurture its user with a calm, relaxing energy, as well as to stimulate passion and drive.

One can use this stone to develop the motivation and courage to take risks, while being safe, calm, and level-headed.

Ruby and Kyanite work excellently when used together, and this synergy is only enhanced when the two minerals occur with each other in the same rock.

Ruby Crystal Healing Properties

The ruby is an incredibly important crystal in spirituality and crystal healing.

Due to its deep red colour, this red crystal is deeply symbolic of blood and life force, and is said to bring energy, strength, power, and vitality to its user.

Rubies harness the intense power of fire energy and are recommended by crystal healers to those who need an energy boost, or who are lacking passion and drive.

As a love stone, the ruby crystal is deeply symbolic of romantic love and passion, and is perfect for those struggling with their romantic relationships.

Kyanite Crystal Healing Properties

Kyanite is renowned in the crystal healing world for its calming, cleansing energy, much like the sea it resembles in colour.

For this reason, Kyanite is a great stone to use for meditation.

Ruby In Kyanite Chakras

Associated primarily with the Throat Chakra and Heart Chakra, many crystal healers believe that Ruby in Kyanite stones help people to speak the truth straight from their hearts, and therefore can be used to help resolve arguments.

Try pairing a Ruby in Kyanite stone with a Ruby Record Keeper Crystal to also access the Third Eye Chakra: Ruby Record Keepers are believed by many to contain ancient wisdom due to the sacred geometry of their Record Keeper etchings, and can be placed on the Third Eye Chakra in the centre of the forehead to enable the attainment of knowledge and psychic wisdom.

Ruby Chakras

Ruby crystals are heavily associated with the Root Chakra: they are said to harness Earth Energy and offer protection, grounding, and security to their users.

Rubies can also be used with the Heart Chakra, where they can incite and attract passion and love for others.

Ruby in Kyanite, as a Ruby Combination Stone, can be paired with other other red crystals, or orange crystals, such as Garnet, Carnelian, or certain red Mookaite or red Jasper specimens, to maximise one's connection to Fire Energy and Earth Energy, one's connection to the Heart Chakra, and to optimise the energising properties of the Ruby.

Kyanite Chakras

Like all blue stones, Kyanite resonates strongly with the Throat Chakra.

Kyanite stones are therefore believed to be great communication aids and are said to be very helpful in enhancing listening and speaking skills, enabling someone to express themselves with clarity and confidence.

Ruby in Kyanite is a predominantly blue stone due to the Kyanite within it, and therefore can be paired with other blue stones to intensify one's connection to the Throat Chakra.

Blue stones that pair well with Ruby in Kyanite include Amazonite, Blue Apatite, Blue Calcite, Chrysocolla, Lapis Lazuli, and Sodalite.

How Hard Is Ruby In Kyanite

As a combination stone, Ruby in Kyanite contains multiple minerals, each of which demonstrate their own unique hardness levels on the Mohs scale: this means that each Ruby in Kyanite stone can vary widely in hardness.

The hardness of a Ruby in Kyanite stone depends on the many factors which influence its specific mineral composition, including the presence of other minerals such as Green Fuchsite, and the individual proportions of Ruby and Kyanite within the crystal matrix.

Kyanite itself is a mineral that varies widely in hardness, usually within the range of 4.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, due to the differences in the hardness of two lengths of its crystals: this is why Kyanite is sometimes referred to as Disthene, meaning "two strengths".

Rubies measure 9 on the Mohs scale, meaning that ruby crystals are extremely hard and difficult to scratch and damage.

Rubies are very special crystals, for diamonds are the only mineral in the world that are harder than them: in contrast, Green Fuchsite is a soft mineral, usually measuring around 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

Therefore a Ruby in Kyanite stone, containing Kyanite with Ruby and Green Fuchsite inclusions, can vary in hardness due to the nature of the minerals it contains: however, a Ruby in Kyanite polished stone does tend to be sturdy, hard, and difficult to damage.
